The 2017 Volvo V90 Near Oxford, MS: Comfortable Cross Country Luxury at its Best

What if you could do some off-roading without an SUV or a Jeep? After 20 years, the station wagon undergoes another makeover with the new 2017 Volvo V90.

Volvo’s iconic V90 Wagon underwent a revamp back in 1997 when it took the Volvo 960 station wagon and came out with the V90. The new V90 shows that it is still a significant and relevant series in Volvo’s line of models.

There was a lot of excitement surrounding the announcement of the new model and as we look to the release of the V90, let’s take a look at some of the things that really make it shine.

An All-Around Traveler’s Vehicle

Volvo really had in mind the traveler when they designed the new 2017 Volvo V90.

In the midst of model cars with slick designs, the all-new 2017 Volvo V90 is a return of the wagon with a smart design and practical features; it’s a convergence of elegance and durability.

If you want to travel to the woods, the mountains, the shore, or just the grocery store, the 2017 Volvo V90 is bound to get you there.

Equipped with all-road large 19’’ 6-Double Spoke Alloy wheels, it has an impressive ground clearance of 8.4 inches.

This ground clearance is nearly 2.5 inches more than its doppelganger, the V90 station wagon.

What this means is that the wheels are not only durable but also help to elevate the car. When you’re off-roading, there’s bound to be plenty of rocks and things to obstruct you.

An 8.4 inch ground clearance is significant compared to most vehicles and it's comparable to some SUVs and Jeeps.

With a clearance that high, whether you’re traveling on city roads or going through the woods, you won’t have anything scraping the bottom of the car.

As if that wasn’t enough, the 2017 Volvo V90 comes with all-weather capability so that you can really travel anywhere, anytime; there’s virtually no natural obstacle that will stop you from going anywhere.

Under the Hood of the 2017 Volvo V90

The technology behind the 2017 Volvo V90 is a feat that not many other cars can contend with.

Unlike a lot of other cars, the 2017 Volvo V90 proves itself efficient even at high altitudes. The reason being that unlike most cars, the V90 is equipped with forced induction—supercharger and turbocharger engines that push extra air into the engine to generate more power.

To keep it simple, the differences between the two types is that a supercharger uses engine power to spin rotors to pump air into the engine while a turbocharger uses exhaust gases from the engine to do the same.

The 2017 Volvo V90 is not only equipped with both a supercharger and turbocharger, but it also uses both efficiently and quietly as it gets the best features of each.

You’ll hardly notice that the 2017 Volvo V90 has either equipment.

The car’s engine starts with the supercharger at lower speeds and seamlessly switches to the turbocharger when the engine passes 3,500 RPM. And because it’s so quiet, you won’t notice the shift in the forced induction or the difference in noise.

Other cars with these engines still lose efficiency at high altitudes because obviously as you go higher in elevation, the less air there is to use.

Naturally then, these cars are unable to use the air and create more power.

But for the V90, the supercharger and turbocharger forced induction engines to enable the vehicle to function at 10,000 feet the same as it would function at 100 feet.

Elevation presents no challenges and you won't be losing any efficiency at high elevations.

Although Volvo has only been making these engines for a couple years, the 1966 P1800 which has gone more than 3 million miles is a testament to the durability and longevity of Volvo engines.

The With 30 MPG, you’ll be able to travel faster and farther before you have to go home.

To top it all off, you’ll find a two-liter, four-cylinder engine with 316 horsepower in the 2017 Volvo V90.

Basically, those steep elevations and rough terrains are no longer going to be a problem.

And all that paired with all-wheel drive means you’re guaranteed maximum control when you’re out in the wild.

A Safe and Comfortable Interior Design

It’s clear to see from the number of features that some of the main focuses of the 2017 Volvo V90 is ease, comfort, and safety.

The first to show for these focuses is the navigation. Any traveler needs a map and the V90’s Sensus navigation makes it simple to trek through the back roads or the woods and easy to make it back out.

The navigation is not only easy, but also safe. There are a lot of drivers who still use their smartphones to use navigation which presents a distraction from the road and a threat to their lives.

With a 12-inch driver display, Sensus navigation is right next to your dashboard so it minimizes the time you look for directions and at the road.

But let’s say in that split second you look at the navigation, a wild deer pops out.

Fortunately, the V90 is equipped with City Safety which automatically brakes for you when something comes too close to the vehicle—that means deer, other animals, pedestrians, and cyclists.

While you're on the road, the V90 helps you check your blind spots with LEDs on the side mirrors before you make any lane changes.

On the more luxurious side of the V90’s interior design is the premium sound technology of Bowes & Wilkins which gives an exceptional driving experience as you make your way through the mountains or the highway.

And adding to the luxurious feel is the V90’s CleanZone technology.

The name kind of explains what it does, but it filters particulates and odors to create a clean environment within the vehicle at all times. If pollutant levels rise, the V90 closes the air intake to ensure that wherever you go, the air is always clean inside.

All this is finally paired with a panoramic roof which stretches from the front to the rear seats of the vehicle which also opens to allow more air and light to filter through.

It’s easy to say that a combination of all these features and interior design almost makes the 2017 Volvo V90 its own universe.

The Options

The 2017 Volvo V90 evidently offers a lot. For anyone considering it, there are three options that Volvo will make available.

The T5 base model comes with a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine with 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. As the next model and the standard, the T6 has a supercharger and turbocharger which is the version with 316 horsepower as discussed earlier.

Volvo will also release another version of the V90—the T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid which will evidently allow for even more powerful and performance driving with 407 horsepower.

Aside from the various models, Volvo designers give you the opportunity to customize many of the features beginning with the elegant array of colors ranging from Ice White, Magic Blue Metallic, Twilight Bronze Metallic, Crystal White Pearl Metallic, Bright Silver Metallic, Osmium Grey Metallic, Onyx Black Metallic, and Maple Brown Metallic.

While the standard comes with 19’’ 6-Double Spoke Tech Black Matte/Diamond Cut Alloy Wheels, designers also give you the option to upgrade them to the 20’’ 10-Spoke Tech Grey Diamond Cut Alloy Wheels, the 20’’ 5-Double Spoke Black Matte Diamond Cut-C007, or the 21’’ 7-Open Spoke Tech Black Diamond Cut-W006.

For the upholstery, drivers have a choice between three colors of leather—blonde leather, charcoal leather, and amber leather all with a charcoal interior. However, the luxury package allows drivers to upgrade to nappa leather in the same colors.

Even though you might want to pick out every feature, designers also offer you the option to choose from two different packages.

The convenience package provides some of the more basic, but nonetheless helpful features.

It includes a grocery bag holder, homelink, park assist pilot, heated windshield washer nozzles, digital compass in inner rear view mirror, 360 degree surround view camera and interior high-level illumination.

With the luxury package, drivers get a number of additional nifty features.

The package comes with power adjustable side support, electronic climate control with glovebox cooling, heated rear seats, backrest massage front seats, power operated load cover, and fully coordinated sills and bumpers.

The V90 is a formidable vehicle and presents an interesting mix of practicality and luxury. Volvo's new model car presents just the right balance between handling and comfort which allows for a smooth and quiet ride.

Even if you're not looking to get a new car, it's a model that anyone should check out. And if you are looking for something new, you definitely want to take a look at all the features and of the new V90 in person.
