The 2018 Volvo XC60 Near Hattiesburg, MS: Stunning Design and Performance

The 2018 Volvo XC60 near Hattiesburg, MS offers a stunning design and performance in this new model. Read about the latest reviews and specs for this compact SUV.

Things need a reboot every once in a while. Films get a reboot all the time. How many Spiderman reboots are we going to get?

But cars aren't famous for their reboots. We typically don't even use that language to describe cars. Cars evolve, they don't reboot.

But Volvo's retooling of their crossover XC60 can't really be called an evolution but a complete overhaul. Thus the word "reboot" fits perfectly in this scenario.

In 2016, we saw the rebooted XC60 explode onto the road with both style and power. And it drove away with multiple awards

How could Volvo improve upon this beast? We were perplexed until we actually got a chance to examine a 2018 XC60. And if you keep reading, you'll see why we think the 2018 Volvo XC60 is the best crossover of the year.

1. The Exterior of the 2018 Volvo XC60 Still Rocks

Spiderman's outfit doesn't change much over the years. If it changed too much, you might not recognize the character.

The same thing is true for the XC60. Its outer appearance was pretty much perfect on creation. Little improvement was needed.

But Volvo seems to have found a way to improve on an already perfect design. Essentially, we're looking at a brand new body, wheels, lighting, glass, and trim. And they all stay true to the original.

The wheelbase got a revamp. 2.6 inches were added. And the overhang is a bit shorter along with more muscular wheel arches.

This is an athletic looking crossover with a sculpted body.

And the daytime running lights aren't something to trifle with. These "Thor's Hammer" LED daytime running lights will keep you safe on the road and visible in all weather conditions.

2. The Interior Is a Dream Come True

Volvo used the same dash in their XC60 for about ten years. Sure, it fit and it was both useful and classy. But ten years is too long to keep the same dash design in a vehicle.

If you want a beautiful dash, buy a 2018 Volvo XC60. You get a huge 9-inch Sensus Connect color touchscreen at its center. And the screen will bring you the best in the market in infotainment.

The touch screen works just as well as your iPad or Android device. And the controls are intuitive. And the really awesome thing about it: you can operate it even with gloves on.

The new infrared technology makes it possible to even swipe inches above the screen and still operate the device.

And you don't have to be without your 4GLTE connection, even if you forgot your phone. And Apple Car Play and Android Auto work flawlessly with the system.

The user interface is easy. Stacked tiles that are color-coded make it simple to go from navigation to phone to media and other applications.

And almost all of the features on the digital screen can be controlled directly from the steering wheel.

And even in the digital age, sometimes the most efficient input is analog. This is why Volvo chose to keep their volume knob in place rather than rely on the digital screen.

If you're looking for great speaker options, the XC60 is your boombox. You can opt-in for the Bowers & Wilkens surround sound system. You can install a total of 14 speakers in the crossover and power them with 1,000 watts of amplification.

3. Yeah, But What's Under the Hood?

You would get nowhere if you only cared about a car's exterior. What's under the hood is by far the most important aspect, and yet how many people really understand what actually drives them around?

You can order three different engines for your 2018 Volvo XC60. You can start with the basic T5 2.0-liter turbo. Or you can go with a T6 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged inline 4-cylinder.

The last option is a plug-in hybrid. The rear motor is electric and the front engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged inline 4-cylinder like the T6.

The 2018 Volvo XC60 is an all-wheel-drive vehicle with an 8-speed transmission (automatic). And the engine takes premium gas.

Highway gas mileage isn't something to boast about with a regular engine in the XC60. It only gets around 28 miles to the gallon on the highway.

But the rumors about the hybrid are amazing at 54 MPG on the plug-in hybrid engine.

5. How Does She Handle?

SUVs haven't always been known for their great handling on the road. 20 years ago, driving an SUV was almost akin to driving a tractor-trailer. The turning radius was the size of a barn.

But today with all the improvements made you can make a lot of the new SUVs and crossovers turn on the spot. Which is pretty much the case for the 2018 Volvo XC60.

You can take this vehicle on city streets and quickly transition to the country without a worry. The double wishbone suspension in front of the vehicle allows you to smoothly glide over any bump along the way.

The rear spring dampeners are gone and in their place is an optional air suspension. This makes for a tunable response. The dampening is variable as well.

This allows for flat cornering, which some crossovers don't deliver reliably. And an optional off-road setting will make your off-road adventures even more fun.

Picking up speed on the highway is a breeze. Her acceleration is ample and she's quiet at the same time.

6. No Deaths By 2020

In 2017, we're three years from Volvo's goal of no one dying of a car wreck in their cars by 2020. This an assumed promise that they will provide autonomous driving features by then.

Right now it seems that Volvo is only inching toward their goal. But their cars are getting safer.

One of the most innovative safety features on the 2018 Volvo XC60 is its Steer Assist. This steer assist detects when a driver decides to swerve away from an object or an oncoming car.

The system takes over and positions the car in the safest possible position. This only happens if the system detects a swerve through the steering wheel. So you retain full control of the vehicle until that moment.

It also uses the braking system to be sure you slow down enough to be less likely to injure yourself in a crash.

Other safety features include an inattention monitor, an advanced lane departure warning system (detects oncoming cars moving into your lane) and a blind-spot warning system.

If you want hands-off parking, you can use the park assist automatic parking system. And if you ever thought cruise control should mostly drive the car for you, look no further than the Volvo Pilot Assist adaptive cruise control.

The Volvo XC60 is probably one of the safest cars you could drive on the road right now. And it seems that Volvo is pretty close to its goal of no deaths by 2020.

7. But What About the XC90?

Volvo sells the XC90 as an upgrade to the 60 series. But we'd be liars if we could give you too much in the way of a difference between the two.

The back seats are a bit more comfortable in the XC90 as their seats include a third row large enough to carry most adults. While the XC60 is a strict five-seater.

But the lack of a third row does allow for a bit more space in the back for storage.

The dash is essentially the same. But the new XC60 actually looks newer and more hip than the "luxury" dash of the 90 series.

The size of the XC60 is, of course, a bit smaller. But this isn't a bad thing for a five-seater crossover. And you're not sacrificing in the engine much with the XC60.

Both the 60 and 90 series offer the plug-in hybrid option. And if you're worried they forgot the three powertrains so coveted in the 90 series, lay your fears to rest.

So this torque converter-based automatic will be just as smooth and fast as you'd expect from a high-end crossover.

Conclusion: You're Missing Out

If you've been waiting to upgrade your crossover until the perfect one came along, you'll be missing out on perfection if you wait any longer. The 2018 Volvo XC60 near Hattiesburg, MS  is the step up you deserve.

The outer design is slick and will turn heads on the road. The engine will remain reliable and peppy for years. And the air suspension system will let you go off-road in an instant while keeping you weaving in and out of traffic.

And if you're worried about safety, Volvo has you covered.
